SNPhA Cinches Wins in Cincy

UHCOP Chapter Earns Chapter of the Year, Top Competition Placements

Aug. 27 — The 91ÁÔÆæ College of Pharmacy Chapter of the Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) cinched top honors—including winning Chapter of the Year, multiple outreach categories and the live clinical skills competition—at the SNPhA National Conference Aug. 1-4 in Cincinnati.

The chapter claimed the Chauncey I. Cooper (CIC) Excellence Award in the Large Chapter category, recognizing its exceptional commitment to SNPhA's mission of serving underrepresented communities through education, outreach and leadership.

Among the chapter's activities for which it was recognized were major community outreach events such as the Mayor's Back to School Fest and the Black Men's Wellness Health Fair. At these events, members advanced national initiatives through health screenings, chronic disease prevention education, mental health awareness activities and immunization services.

Throughout the year, the chapter participated in nearly 200 community events, educating nearly 6,000 individuals and providing 2,300 blood glucose and blood pressure screenings as well as immunizations to promote healthier communities across Houston.

The chapter's 2024-2025 winning national initiatives and leaders were:

  • Fighting Diabetes - Michael Crichlow, Brianna Phan-Tran and Emetu Umah
  • Mental Health - Vishwa Bhakta and Estrella Flores
  • Operation Immunizations - George Bonsu, Khanh Nguyen and Virgina Thome
  • Power to End Stroke/Smoking Cessation - Tricia Cao, Dharwin Jomuad, Tracy Nguyen and Aiden Tran
  • Project Keepsake - Huyen Tran and Julianne Yanga
  • Remember the Ribbon - Larisa Maddix and Clark Saturos

Additional placements included:

  • Second place in Legislative, Membership Benefits, and Immigration - Alec Chan and Jason Pham
  • Second place in Chapter Achievement Partners (CAPs) - Ashley Cao and Dacia Esquell
  • Third place in Bridging the Gap - Mathew Kim and Christian To

Individual awards included:

  • Community Leader of the Year - Crichlow
  • Adrian & Ptoshia Washington Book Award – Ogechi Ngwakwe
  • CVS Health Sponsor a Student Sponsorship - Harris Nguyen, Ngwakwe and Gia Tran

In the Clinical Skills Competition, Crichlow and Khanh Nguyen took first place, while Gia Tran and Ngwakwe were named finalists.

Ngwakwe and Victoria Briggs were appointed to national leadership positions for 2025-2026 as National Bridging the Gap Chair and National Remember the Ribbon Chair, respectively.
