    In 2023, 100% of our MA students passed the praxis exam on the first attempt. Historically, more than 90% of MA graduates are employed in speech-language pathology positions within 9 months of graduation.

  • Interpreting and Translation - ASL/English

    The American Sign Language Interpreting Program is the first baccalaureate degree for ASL Interpreting in Texas and our faculty possess expertise in training individuals to meet rigorous state and national certification standards.

    Celebrating PhD Candidate, Stephanie Fan’s Conference Success

    In March, doctoral candidate, Stephanie Fan presented her research at the AMIA 2025 Informatics Summit, followed by winning 3rd place at this week's Bridge2AI Voice Symposium in Tampa for her poster on error analysis of a clinically-interpretable voice disorder screening model. Congratulations Stephanie!

    The speech-language pathology master’s program has advanced in the U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate Schools rankings for the second consecutive year, climbing to No. 39 nationwide.

    Graduate Student Receives TSHA Award

    Brianna Sanborn was awarded the Sara Haynes Scholarship from the TSH Foundation. This award is given to only one graduate student from Texas who demonstrates specific interest in working with adults with neurogenic disorders. Congratulation Brianna!

    Student Receives Provost's Undergraduate Research Scholarship

    Madison Freeman, mentored by Dr. Amber Thiessen, received a PURS award to study supports for people with aphasia. The purpose of this study is to examine the way that people with aphasia visually attend to text-based cues that support language comprehension. The overall goal is to improve the communication of people with aphasia.

The Master of Arts education program in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Houston is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the .

Undergraduate

The undergraduate curriculum provides a pre-professional foundation for graduate study in Communication Sciences and Disorders and related fields. Courses are offered in typical and disordered speech, language and hearing across the lifespan.

We offer two post-baccalaureate programs: The Leveling Program and the SLP Assistant program.

This program is designed to prepare students to effectively interpret between American Sign Language and English (spoken & written).
