College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences Honors
The College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences (CLASS) announces the winners of the
2012 Ross M. Lence Awards for Teaching Excellence.
The college gives out teaching excellence awards in three categories:
Humanities, Social Sciences, and Performing and Visual Arts. The awards
are named to honor the memory of one of the 91ÁÔÆæâ€™s most
inspiring teachers, Ross M. Lence, a professor of political science
from 1971 – 2006.

The Ross M. Lence Award in the Humanities goes to Claudine Giacchetti, Professor and Director of the French Program in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages. Professor Giacchetti is a scholar of Nineteenth-Century French literature and has written extensively on women writers of the Romantic period.

The Ross M. Lence Award in the Social Sciences goes to Samantha Kwan, assistant professor in the Department of Sociology. Professor Kwan conducts research in the areas of gender, body, and health, focusing on how cultural and social structures shape women’s physical and emotional well-being.

The Ross M. Lence Award in Performing and Visual Arts goes to Jackie
deMontmollin assistant professor and associate director of Theatre
Education in the School of Theatre & Dance. Professor deMontmollin
specializes in curriculum development and pedagogy.
