  F/CM Attended Big 12 Academic Business Conference

  The Big 12 Academic Business Conference was held in Manhattan, Kansas and Facilities/Construction Management sent a few representatives to participate in the Facilities track: David Oliver, Maite Trasancos, Jennifer Rea and Magda Brady attended the conference last fall and were able to connect with fellow Big 12 universities.
• The 91ÁÔÆæ Police Department partnered with the university’s Justin Dart Jr., Student Accessibility Center, and Facilities Services to host the first Cougar Walk & Roll, an event modeled on the annual Walk in the Dark event. While UHPD’s Walk in the Dark event focuses on identifying areas that could benefit from increased lightning, the Cougar Walk & Roll asks participants to locate accessibility concerns on campus.   Facilities Solid Waste Career Day

  In November, Assistant Director of Campus Services DeAnthony Thomas, Refuse Collector/Driver Justin Luera and Facilities Communications Manager Erica Vazquez had the opportunity to engage with over 120 students at Black Elementary in Aldine Independent School District on the various career opportunities within Facilities/Construction Management at 91ÁÔÆæ.   Facilities/Construction Management Engages at TCUF Conference

  Staff members from the Facilities/Construction department attended the 2024 Texas College & University Facilities Professionals Conference (TCUF) in September. This year’s theme was Live, Learn and Play. Attendees engaged in various workshops that included topics related to how facilities and staff in higher education can balance wellness, knowledge and growth. • Since 2018, Facilities/Construction Management has held an annual Facilities Forum that invites facilities departments from within the 91ÁÔÆæ System to congregate, collaborate, and exchange ideas to better serve their universities. Each forum has a theme and the guest speakers during the two-day forum use the theme to guide their topic. Past forum themes include, Breaking Barriers with Dream Teams, Shifting into High Gear, Digging Deeper into Sustaining Our Evolving Environment to name a few.   Facilities/Construction Management Hosts Annual Employee Awards and Celebration

  Facilities/Construction Management held its annual departmental employee lunch and award celebration at the Student Center South, Houston Room with over 300 F/CM employees attending. The event provided an opportunity for F/CM to congratulate and honor the entire department for winning the 2023 APPA Award for Excellence in Facilities Management. • Facilities/Construction Management received the AssetWorld Steve Deines Achievement Award at the AssetWorld Conference in Allen, Texas. The award recognizes outstanding accomplishments in facilities and workplace management using innovative technologies that improve AssetWorks’ suite of products. F/CM received the award after successfully upgrading to a new CMMS software from AssetWorks and best utilizing it to deliver effective results for the department. • Facilities/Construction Management is pleased to announce a new partnership with FCC Environmental Services for our single stream recycling. This new service contract gives the 91ÁÔÆæ the ability to recycle glass through our recycling receptacles across campus. This relationship came about through a series of trusted networking relationships. .
  

• 91ÁÔÆæ staff members from the Facilities/Construction Management department attended the 2024 TAPPA Educational Conference and Business Partner Fair in San Marcos, Texas from April 7 – April 9. This state-wide conference allows attendees opportunities to gain knowledge and become even more informed on topics related to facilities management. It also creates networking partnerships with facilities peers at other colleges and universities.

  Facilities Strategic Plan

  Facilities/Construction Management’s Strategic Plan is now available. The F/CM Strategic Goals were developed from team members representing all areas of the department. These goals represent F/CM’S commitment to supporting a Tier 1 research University with aspirations of becoming a Top 50 public university. • The 91ÁÔÆæ’s John M. O’Quinn Law Building and the College of Medicine Building received national recognition this spring by being awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certification. The certification comes via the U.S. Green Building Council. For a building to receive the certification, it earns points and adheres to prerequisites that address carbon, energy, water, waste, transportation, materials used, health, and indoor environmental quality.
