Strategic Initiatives

At the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts, strategy ¾±²õ²Ô’t just a plan—¾±³Ù’s a call to action.

Guided by our , we’re creating a future defined by artistic excellence, meaningful collaboration, and a deep connection to our communities.

Our strategic priorities reflect a clear commitment to student success, creative innovation, and community impact. From student wellness programs and professional mentorship to expanded outreach and dynamic campus events, we are actively building a culture of growth, care, and opportunity—on stage, in the studio, and beyond.

Our Strategic Focus Areas

We believe that student support is essential to creative development. Our Student Wellness in the Arts (SWITA) initiative brings together counseling services, peer networks, and creative practices to promote mental health and holistic growth. Events such as somatic writing workshops and collaborative art-making offer students accessible tools for reflection and connection.

°Â±ð’r±ð improving how we welcome and engage with our communities and audiences. Our admissions and recruitment materials are being translated into Spanish to better serve families and prospective students. Multilingual signage in venues like the Moores Opera House helps create a more welcoming experience for all visitors.

Through the Real-World Artist Mentorship Program (RAMP)—a summer initiative supported by a Provost’s CITE Grant—undergraduate students are paired with alumni mentors working across creative fields. RAMP offers students valuable insight, professional guidance, and real-world connections that support their transition into creative careers.

Fridays at KGMCA offer new opportunities for students to connect through Sync Up Fridays—a weekly series that includes career workshops, mental health resources, arts career fairs, and informal gatherings like coffee and conversation with the Dean. These sessions foster a stronger sense of community while preparing students for the future.

Our Strategic Initiatives Working Group (SIWG)—a collaborative body of faculty, staff, and students—guides and supports implementation of our plan. Formed in 2023, the group ensures our strategies remain focused, responsive, and rooted in shared values.

Together, we are turning ideas into action and building a vibrant future for the arts—one that uplifts students, strengthens partnerships, and expands the role of the arts in public life.
