The Wu group is a computational physical organic chemistry group. We apply density functional theory and other computational tools to explain and predict chemical reactivity and molecular properties. Current research focuses on the design of functional carbon-rich polycyclic aromatic and antiaromatic hydrocarbons, photoswitchable molecules, self-assembling organic frameworks, and new reactions guided by concepts of ground- and excited-state aromaticity and antiaromaticity. Much of our work is carried out in close collaboration with synthetic organic, supramolecular, spectroscopic, and photochemical groups around the world. Students in the Wu group develop independence, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate scientific results through compelling storytelling.
