Shubham Akshat, Ph.D.
Shubham Akshat, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Operations Management with a joint appointment at the C.T. Bauer College of Business the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine at the 91ÁÔÆæ. He is also the core faculty member of the Healthcare Business Institute at the 91ÁÔÆæ. His interdisciplinary research integrates operations management, public policy, and healthcare systems to address critical issues in organ transplantation, child welfare, and health equity.
Shubham's work leverages empirical research methods, simulation, applied probability, and optimization to improve real-world decision-making in complex health and social service systems. His research has been published in leading journals such as Manufacturing & Service Operations Management (M&SOM) and Health Care Management Science, and have been finalists for prestigious awards, including the INFORMS Public Sector Operations Research Best Paper Award and the POMS College of Healthcare Operations Best Paper Award.
Before joining the 91ÁÔÆæ, Shubham was a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University. He has also held analyst and engineering roles in healthcare management and supply chain analytics in India, deepening his practical understanding of operational challenges from industry experience.
He earned his doctorate in Operations Management from the University of Maryland, College Park campus and holds a bachelor's degree in Production and Industrial Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He is a committed educator, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Supply Chain Fundamentals, Risk Analytics, and Uncertainty Modeling. Shubham is also an active member of INFORMS, M&SOM, and POMS, and regularly contributes to academic conferences and peer-reviewed journals. Shubham’s work exemplifies the use of data-driven insights to drive systemic improvements in healthcare delivery and public service outcomes.
